Old
New
The Board recognizes that any form of social or cultural discrimination is incompatible with Catholic moral principles.

The Board recognizes that social and cultural discrimination is incompatible with Catholic moral principles.

Note: the wording of this passed amendment is significantly watered down because of opposition to the original language by Administration staff and some trustees. The original amendment read: "The board recognizes that unjust discrimination is incompatible with Catholic moral principles". The latter is language taken from the section of the Catechism dealing with homosexuality.

Note: this final amendment was watered down a little bit, as a compromise to overcome opposition from Administration staff and some trustees. It original read "where that voice is in accord with the Catholic faith the Catholic Church's moral and doctrinal teachings".

Regulation 8

(Referred to in Director’s response as “Proposed amendment No. 7a”)

Old
New

The Board is committed to implementing an inclusive curriculum based on the Catholic faith and the Catholic Church’s teachings and to reviewing resources, instruction, assessment and evaulation practices in order to identify and address discriminatory biases so that students may maximize their learning potential in such a way that affirms their full identity as Children of God.

Note: the original amendment proposed by trustees Del Grand and Kennedy was a bit stronger. It read: "Catholic faith and the Catholic Church's moral and doctrinal teachings". However, Administration staff and some trustees objected to inclusion of the words "moral and doctrinal", so the amendment sponsors compromised to ensure something half-decent passed.
