Trudeau vs. Pence: The not-so-subtle media bias
It is no surprise that our media is biased towards leftist ideologies, but the extent that they go to in order to protect their supporters is quite astonishing. A perfect example of this bias are the recent articles written after Vice President Mike Pence visited Justin Trudeau. As we all know, Trudeau is pro-abortion and claims to be a staunch supporter of women's rights, while Pence has been proudly pro-life for years. After the recent passing of pro-life laws in the US, Trudeau expressed concern over the “backsliding of women's rights." While their conversation was cordial, it was interesting to see the media's language when comparing the positions of Pence and Trudeau.
They paint Trudeau as a “champion” of women's and reproductive rights, and as a “defender” of choice and basic human rights. Pence's position is described in less positive terms. For example, it is said that he “opposes” abortion and is “anti-choice,” or is “vehemently” anti-abortion. The media has been using this language since abortion was legalized to make it socially acceptable to have an abortion and to demonize those who stand up for life by painting them as misogynistic forced-birthers.
This is the world we live in. This is our reality.
