Rating Comments: Maxime (Max) Bernier is a former Conservative Party of Canada MP who now leads the People's Party of Canada (PPC). He was the PPC candidate in the June 19, 2023 federal by-election in Portage-Lisgar (MB). Prior to that, Mr. Bernier ran as the PPC candidate in the riding of Beauce (QC) in the 2021 federal election, and, in October 2020, he was the PPC in a federal by-election in the riding of York Centre (ON).

Maxime has never responded to CLC's election survey. However, his view on abortion was hinted at by his vote against the 'human life' Motion, M-312, by MP Stephen Woodworth, to study whether a child in the womb is a human being. As a CPC Leadership contender however, he started to make appeals to the pro-life movement, even saying a Bernier government would re-open the abortion debate if that's what his caucus wanted. He also said he would consider voting for a new pro-life law, depending on the wording.
Bernier was a life-long social liberal, supporting and promoting the LGBT agenda. However, he had a positive turn in February 2017, during the race for Leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, when he said he regretted voting in favour of Bill C-16, Liberal legislation on transgender ideology that would compel Canadians to use invented words like "Zhe" and "Zir". (see quotes tab).
As Leader of the PPC, Bernier has continued to move in a more socially-conservative direction, calling late-term abortion "murder" and pledging that if elected Prime Minister, he would repeal transgender ideology Bill C-16 on the grounds that it compels Canadians to utter government-mandated speech. He also pledged to stop funding overseas abortions with taxpayer money.

Unfortunately however, Maxime is still far from being a pro-lifer, and on September 4, 2019 he finally revealed his position on abortion which was far from respectable. He told the media that he supports allowing children to be killed in their mothers' wombs ""up to 24, 25, 26 weeks because at that time the fetus is not a child". It is astonishingly ignorant to believe that a fetus "is not a child". Clearly, Maxime needs education on the scientific facts about life in the womb. He needs to be shown the irrefutable proof that the baby in the womb is always a member of the human family, and that he or she cannot be anything else.
