Candidate, Patty van Diepen
Public Schools Branch, PE
Electoral District: Zone 7
Bio
CLC rating: Pro-life, pro-parental rights
Rating Comments: In an excellent 2021 letter to the editor, van Dieppen criticized public schools for pushing a sexual agenda at the expense of literacy and numeracy skills, and called for schools to "get back to basics". In particular, she criticized gender fluid ideology being pushed in schools, including the Department of Education's plans to reduce the use of male/female references by teachers, such as saying "boys and girls", allowing the use of intimate female spaces like washrooms and changerooms by biological males who "feel" they are the opposite sex, and harming women's sports by allowing males to participate in girls sports.
Ms. van Diepen was elected to the Board in November 2022 but resigned in May 2023, citing the fact that the board would not address concerns she heard from some parents regarding the Board's so-called "gender equity and diversity" guidelines in schools.
