CLC rating: Educable
Rating Comments: The candidate has not yet responded to CLC's 2023 provincial election questionnaire. In 2016, Long gave a strong defense of Christian teaching on abortion and homosexuality, even suggesting that it would be wrong for Christians to vote for politicans who support these behaviours that are so clearly condemned in the Bible. Once the liberal media complex found his statement on social media, the biased left-wing propagandists who pose as journalists orchestrated a hate campaign against Long, demanding he be fired as a candidate by Jason Kenney. The ages old smear campaign of the media did not succeed in getting him fired, but they did extract their pound of flesh in so far as they bullied Long into publicly repudiating his Christian belief in marriage as the union of one man and one woman, and ever pledging to vote for homosexual "marriage" himself, if elected. Although the media didn't get him to recant his belief in the sanctity of human life, they did extract a promise that he would not "re-open the abortion debate".

Here is Martin Long's voting record relating to life and family issues:

Votes, Surveys and Policy Decision Vote Score
Committee Meeting Record: Motion # 40, made to the Select Special Public Health Act Review Committee, moving that the committee recommend in its report to the Alberta Legislative Assembly that the Public Health Act be amended to explicitly guarantee province-wide access to abortion as a "right"
Moved by radical pro-abortion NDP MLA Kathleen Ganley as being representative of the view of her Party, Motion # 40 sought to impose pro-abortion politics on the Public Health Act by inserting an explicit assertion of a "right to access abortion" throughout Alberta. This maneuver was to be accomplished by convincing her fellow members of the Select Special Public Health Act Review Committee to vote to recommend her Motion to the Legislature, which has the power to amend the Public Health Act. Fortunately, the pro-child-killing Motion was defeated when the majority United Conservative Party committee members voted against it. [Defeated by a vote of 7 to 4 on September 30, 2020]
No ok
Committee Meeting Record: Motion # 39, made to the Select Special Public Health Act Review Committee, moving that the committee recommend in its report to the Alberta Legislative Assembly that the Public Health Act be amended to explicitly guarantee province-wide access to euthanasia as a "right"
Moved by pro-euthanasia NDP MLA Sarah Hoffman, Motion # 39 sought to impose euthanasia politics on the Public Health Act by inserting an explicit assertion of a "right to access medical assistance in dying" throughout Alberta. This maneuver was to be accomplished by convincing her fellow members of the Select Special Public Health Act Review Committee to vote to recommend her Motion to the Legislature, which has the power to amend the Public Health Act. Fortunately, the medical homicide Motion was defeated when the majority United Conservative Party committee members voted against it. [Defeated by a vote of 7 to 4 on September 30, 2020]

Here are quotes from Martin Long on various life and family issues:

In a 2016 social media comment, Long expressed his principled, Christian beliefs about the immorality of child-murder (abortion), so-called homosexual 'marriage', and opposition to socialism:  “...I would suggest that by virtue of voting for or even defending a government which: supports gay marriage although biblically marriage is between man and woman, endorses a minimum living wage although biblically a man who chooses not to work shall not eat, and says that if you are pro life you can not represent their party although biblically we are not supposed to murder, then one may need to self-examine to figure out if they are ‘Liberal’ or ‘Christian,’” Long wrote. [Facebook, 2016]

After the anti-Christian, left-wing media mounted a hate campaign against Long for his support of natural marriage, Long caved to the smear campaign and publicly recanted his support for biblical teaching on marriage, now professing loyalty to the homosexual agenda:  "Same-sex marriage has been the law of the land for over 13 years. I believe that people have the right to marry whom they please. I would support this as a legislator as I do now..” [Star Edmonton, 'Edmonton United Conservative candidate said gay marriage, abortion and minimum-wage support aren’t biblical', April 8, 2019]

After being viciously attacked by liberal journalists over his pro-life beliefs, and undoubtedly also due to pressure from Jason Kenney, Long aped the UCP Leader's cowardly mantra that he would not re-open the debate on whether we, as a society, should allow abortionists to keep killing babies in the womb:  “(UCP Leader) Jason Kenney has been clear that we will not be reopening this debate. I support the party’s position on this issue….Albertans are tired of being distracted by these divisive debates. I understand that as an elected official, I am responsible for representing all constituents who hold a wide variation of views. I am committed to respecting the rights of all Albertans, as is the United Conservative Party” [Star Edmonton, 'Edmonton United Conservative candidate said gay marriage, abortion and minimum-wage support aren’t biblical', April 8, 2019]
