CLC rating: Caution
Rating Comments: In May 2022, Mr. Kenney resigned as Leader of the United Conservative Party, although he retained the position of Premier of Alberta until the new Leader of the UCP (Danielle Smith) was elected and took his place as Premier. When Mr. Kenney was a federal MP, Jason had a 100%, perfect voting record on life & family issues throughout his long career in the House of Commons. In recent years however, Kenney has undergone a dramatic slide to the left and abandoned former principles, especially since taking over the UCP Leadership.
In 2016 he applauded an LGBTory resolution to delete the long-standing Conservative Party policy that supported the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman.
Since then, his support of LGBTTIQ ideology has progressed, even to the point of publicly opposing parental rights in education, and threatening to use the Leader's pen to veto policies passed by grassroots UCP members which enshrined parental rights and advance notification when children join gay pride clubs in their school (aka GSAs). In July 2018, Kenney held a UCP gay pride breakfast in which he repeatedly stated, "It doesn't matter who you love", thus implicitly shedding his one-time support, as a faithful Catholic, for the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.
Referring to alleged persecution of homosexuals in other countries for "who they are", Kenney repeated the LGBT lobby's false propaganda claim which tells same-sex attracted persons that they ought to primarily identify their core identity as a human being, with their sexual practices and behaviours.
Kenney's moral compromise has also occurred on the pro-life side of the ledger. He has dutifully promised the liberal media that he will not "re-open" the abortion debate.
When the NDP put forward a bill to ban peaceful pro-life expression near abortion facilities - even including silent prayer - Kenney ordered his MLA's not to vote against NOR EVEN TO SPEAK AGAINST the bill, for fear of media backlash. Shamefully, Kenney and the entire UCP caucus fled the legislature to avoid the vote. Kenney has also fired pro-life & pro-family candidates for having publicly stated their religious beliefs about marriage and the sanctity of life. We are also aware that he prevented some outspoken pro-lifers from seeking the nomination in certain ridings.
In the final days of the 2019 Alberta election campaign, Kenney vowed to permit teachers to inform the parents of children who join gay & transsexual clubs at school, if the educators want to. This is a step in the right direction, but does not go far enough. Parents should always be told if their child joins a sexual club.
During an April 2019 radio interview with socially liberal radio host Charles Adler, Kenney also seemed to distance himself from being pro-life, agreeing with Adler that a pro-life MLA's condemnation of abortion was "deeply offensive to many people, and I think objectively so” and suggesting that neither he nor anybody else ought to "judge" a woman's choice to abort her baby as being morally wrong or unloving.

Bill 9, to transform taxpayer-owned public sidewalks near abortion facilities into NO FREE SPEECH ZONES This unconstitutional, totalitarian law, introduced by the communistic NDP, criminalizes peaceful pro-life expression on taxpayer-owned public property within a radius of up to 150m near abortion facilities. Under this gag law, even silent prayer is outlawed near abortion facilities and people will face up to 1 year in jail and/or be fined up to $10,000. Even freedom of the press is restricted by this law within the No Free Speech Zone. More babies will be killed at the hands of abortionists as a result of these No Free Speech Zones because pro-life sidewalk counsellors are no longer permitted to speak to the mothers entering the abortuary about the choice of adoption, nor to offer support with a crisis pregnancy, nor even to offer scientific information about fetal development to demonstrate that her baby really is a human being. The bill passed by a vote of 45 Yeas to 1 Nay. The UCP MLAs were ordered by Jason Kenney NOT to vote against this horrendous bill, nor even to speak against it during debate. Kenney and many of the UCP MLAs fled the legislature during the vote in order to avoid having to take a stand. [Passed 3rd reading May 30, 2018] |
