Candidate, Manikantan Nair
Kitchener Mayor, ON
Bio
CLC rating: Pro-abortion, pro-free speech
Rating Comments: In response to CLC's 2022 mayoral candidate election survey sent to him by a pro-life constituent, Nair indicated that abortion should be legally permitted for women who want to make that choice for a variety of "valid or medical reasons".
With regards to the question on whether he would oppose a censorship "bubble zone" law that strips pro-life Canadians of their constitutional right to peacefully protest outside abortion facilities, on public property, Nair agreed that the right to peaceful protest should be upheld.

Organizations like Planned Parenthood (PP) routinely counsel women to have abortions. Given that abortion is a controversial practice that many taxpayers in your municipality find abhorrent, do you agree that PP and similar “sexual health agencies" should not receive taxpayer funds through the municipality? | no clear answer given |
Do you acknowledge that human life begins at conception (fertilization)? | no |
Do you consider yourself pro-life or pro-choice? | both |
There has been a move in some municipal jurisdictions to pass bylaws which establish censorship zones, also called “bubble zones”, around abortion facilities. These unconstitutional censorship zones make it illegal to express peaceful pro-life speech, including silent prayer, on taxpayer-owned public sidewalks within the vicinity of abortion facilities and pharmacies which dispense abortion pills. If elected, would you vote to oppose such a censorship bylaw? | yes (he supports peaceful/responsible protest) |
