Trustee Helena Karabela
Halton Catholic District School Board, ON
Electoral District: Oakville Wards 5 & 6
Bio
CLC rating: Pro-life, pro-family
Rating Comments: In May of 2022, Trustee Helena Karabela introduced a Sanctity of Life Fundraising motion that pro-abortion trustees eventually voted to kill based on a misguided interpretation of a regulation in the Education Act. On January 18, 2022, Ms. Karabela courageously voted against a disgraceful motion to fly the so-called "gay-pride" flag - that notorious symbol celebrating homoerotic fetishism (and genital mutilation in the case of transgenderism) - outside every single school in the Halton Catholic District School Board for the entire month of June, which LGBT radicals have dubbed "pride-month". Previously, in February 2018, she voted in favour of an excellent motion to protect the Sanctity of Life through school board financial donations.
Also, in September 2021, her motion to re-instate the Lord's Prayer in the morning exercises at HCDSB schools passed.
Helena's voting record as a Trustee has been exemplary. She gave perfect answers to CLC's questionnaire in the run-up to the 2014 school board election and again during the 2022 election cycle.

Sex-Ed curriculum: Motions to protect parental rights in education against the Wynne government's sex-ed over-reach. Trustees from various school boards made motions to curtail the Wynne government's imposition of its graphic sex-ed curriculum. The curriculum infringes on parental rights in education by forcing children at very young ages to be exposed to anti-Catholic LGBTQ ideology, unhealthy sexual practices, and disordered gender concepts. Motions include those to delay implementation of the sex-ed curriculum to allow time for meaningful parental consultation, as well as a more detailed evaluation of the inadequate and evasive government-run consultation process. |

2nd vote on pro-life motion of Halton Catholic District School Board entitled "Upholding the Sanctity of Life Through Donations to Charities and Non-Profits" This excellent motion, put forward by faithful Catholic Trustees of the Halton CDSB, would prevent financial donations from the school board from going to any charities or non-profits that publicly support the intrinsic evils of abortion, contraception, sterilization, euthanasia, or embryonic stem cell research. Motion to fly the Gay Pride flag at every Catholic school in the board In total opposition to Catholic doctrine, this motion sought to ensure that the Gay Pride flag would be flown at every single Catholic school in the board. |

Motion to cancel a fellow Trustee for being faithful to Catholic teaching This motion's intent was to weaponize the Board's Code of Conduct in a grossly anti-democratic fashion, for the purpose of silencing and punishing a fellow school board trustee for simply having defended the Catholic faith and for having dared to oppose anti-Christian secular ideology which was infiltrating the Catholic school board. In addition to undermining the very purpose of Catholic education, a vote in favor of this motion is doubly wrong because it effectively overturns the result of a democratic election in which Catholic ratepayers elected the persecuted trustee for the very purpose of vocally representing their values. |

Opposing the Euthanasia Bill C-7 (Motion to express opposition to the expansion of euthanasia in Canada) This Motion, brought forward by stalwart Catholic Trustee Helena Karabela, would direct the Halton Catholic District School Baord to issue a letter to the Senate of Canada urging that body to oppose the Trudeau Liberals' insideous euthanasia expansion Bill C-7. Sadly, Trustee Karabela's principled Motion was defeated, narrowly, by a vote of 5 opposed to 4 in favour on February 16, 2021. |

Motion to ban fundraising for charities and non-profit organizations that support abortion, euthanasia, or embryonic stem cell research This Motion, made by faithful Catholic Trustee Helena Karabela, sought to ensure that the Halton Catholic District School Baord's fundraising efforts would not be directed to organizations (including registered charities, non-profits, and their subsidiaries, affiliates, and associates) that support or promote abortion, euthanasia, or human embryonic stem cell research). Appallingly, Trustee Karabela's principled Motion was defeated, losing narrowly by a vote of 4 opposed to 3 in favour on February 15, 2022. |

Motion to re-introduce the “Our Father” prayer at the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) This truly Catholic Motion, introduced by faithful HCDSB Trustee Helena Karabela, sought to re-introduce the “Our Father” prayer into the opening exercises at all Halton Catholic schools. The Motion passed on September 21, 2021 by the razor-thin margin of 5 in favour and 4 against – a shameful and outrageous display of contempt by several Catholic trustees for the very words of their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in His prayer to His Father in Heaven. |

Banning fundraising and donations to pro-abortion and anti-life charities Motion to institute, as official school board policy, a ban on using school resources to fundraise for organizations that directly or indirectly promote abortion and other anti-life practices which contradict Catholic moral teaching. |
