Progressive Conservative Party, Pictou East, NS

Bio

Tim Houston
Not Supportable
CLC rating: Pro-abortion, Anti-free speech
Rating Comments: During the 2018 Nova Scotia PC Party Leadership race, CLC made multiple attempts to contact Mr. Houston regarding his stand on pro-life-and-family issues, but received no response.

However, in 2020, Houston's comments during the debates over Bill 242, the so-called "Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Act", which effectively creates anti-free speech, abortion Bubble Zones in Nova Scotia, revealed that he is pro-abortion (see Quotes tab).

In addition, on July 23, 2021, the PC Party of Nova Scotia's Election Campaign Co-Chair, Tara Miller, issued an official communique to CLC stating that the PC Party "will not support or present any legislation that would restrict access to safe medical abortions, and we believe it is not the place of government to do so." Given that Mr. Houston is the Leader of the PC Party, it is unlikely that this communique was issued without his knowledge or approval.

Here are quotes from Tim Houston on various life and family issues:

Describing Nova Scotia's Bill 242, the abortion Bubble Zone legislation to suppress pro-life witness near abortion killing centres, as "a good thing":  "Nobody in this province who is accessing or delivering health care should have to approach a facility in fear. Nobody should worry that somebody is going to protest their right to receive a medical service or their right to deliver a medical service and women should certainly not be subjected to intimidation, harassment or interference . . . This bill ensures, specifically, that women are able to access health care in Nova Scotia without fearing for their safety. That is a good thing. For that reason, I support this bill."
[Nova Scotia Legislature - Hansard - Assembly 63, Session 2 - Wednesday, March 4, 2020]
