MLA Nahanni Fontaine

New Democratic Party, St. Johns, MB

Bio

Nahanni Fontaine
Not Supportable
CLC rating: Pro-abortion
Rating Comments: In a completely erroneous assertion, MLA Fontaine, NDP critic for the status of women, publicly made the false statement that "access to abortion is a human right" (see Quotes tab). The truth is that it has never been conclude in internation law that there is any "human right" to kill unborn children, so MLA Fontaine's rhetoric is either anti-life wishful thinking, or is an intentional lie.

At the UN Commission on the Status of Women in March 2024, Fontaine fired a sarcastic retort at a CLC leader who was questioning her on the link between government funding of abortions for indigenous mothers and its genocidal implications (see Video tab).

Bill 207, 2nd reading, to create No Free Speech "BUFFER ZONES" on public property
This blatantly pro-abortion, private member's bill, introduced by NDP MLA Nahanni Fontaine, was a more extreme sequel to her failed 2018 bill that sought to outlaw peaceful, pro-life expression on taxpayer-owned public sidewalks within a radious of up to 150 metres around all of Manitoba's abortion mills. In her 2021 version, MLA Fontaine included trying to ban peaceful, pro-life witness even around schools. Fortunately, this unconstitutional and totalitarian bill was defeated at 2nd Reading by a vote of 30 Nays over 20 Yeas on Oct. 14, 2021.

Here are quotes from Nahanni Fontaine on various life and family issues:

Falsely claiming that killing unborn children by abortion is a human right, which it is not:  "We have had to fight … to get this government to understand that access to abortion is a human right and is a health care issue." [Winnipeg Sun, 'Minister says Manitoba to provide universal access to abortion pill Mifegymiso', June 1, 2019]

Here are the answers for the questionnaire as provided by Nahanni Fontaine on 2023.

Question Response
Do you acknowledge that human life begins at conception (fertilization)? --
Are there any circumstances under which you believe a woman should have access to abortion?
[Note: A surgical or medical intervention, designed to prevent the death of the mother (e.g. In the case of tubal pregnancy or cervical cancer) but which results in the unintended and undesired death of the pre-born child, is not an abortion.]
All circumstances (per party policy)
Will you support measures to stop funding abortions with taxpayers’ money in Manitoba? No (per party policy)
Do you agree women have the right to be thoroughly informed about the serious health consequences of abortion, the development of their child in the womb and the alternatives to abortion? --
Will you protect the rights of parents to educate their children according to their faith in matters of moral principles and beliefs concerning abortion, contraception and homosexuality? --
Will you oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide, and instead, support measures to promote “palliative care”, the purpose of which is to alleviate pain, and enhance the quality of life for terminally ill patients and those with disabilities? [Note: Euthanasia is the direct and intentional killing of a person by action or omission, with or without that person’s consent, for what people mistakenly believe are compassionate reasons.] --
Will you support legislation to protect the right of health care workers who refuse to participate in procedures which are in violation of their religious or conscientious beliefs? --
