“Andrea Horwath, keep your word” says Ontario Youth
TORONTO, Jan. 18, 2012 – In response to Andrea Horwath’s plans to travel across the province to consult with Ontarians and listen to what they want in the provincial budget, Campaign Life Coalition Youth (CLCY) is calling on the province’s elected officials to defund abortion. In a statement issued on January 11th, Horwath states that “Ontario families are hurting and they want to be heard” insisting that “Ontarians should be setting the agenda for government, not the other way around.”
“Andrea Horwath is willing to have a conversation, but is she willing to listen to the majority of Ontarians who oppose the status quo of subsidizing elective abortions with taxpayer dollars?” said Alissa Golob, Youth Coordinator for Campaign Life Coalition. “If Horwath truly believes that Ontario families should be setting the agenda for government, she will call upon the McGuinty Liberals to stop forcing these families to fund a lifestyle choice that kills a child in her mother’s womb.”
According to the Drummond report, the government’s independent financial advisor warns that Ontario’s healthcare spending is growing and needs to be constrained. Ontarians pay at least $30-50 million every year for an elective procedure that is not medically necessary, and a recent poll shows that more than 60% of Ontarians oppose such funding.
CLCY will encourage supporters to attend these consultations and to contact their MPPs to tell them that abortion is a financial drain on our healthcare system and should be delisted from OHIP. The Ontario government should redirect what scarce money is available in the provincial healthcare budget towards saving lives, not taking them.
