Conservative MP Stephen Woodworth wants Parliament to re-examine archaic common law principles and recognize that the child in the womb is a person
TORONTO, Dec. 22, 2011 - Stephen Woodworth, MP for Kitchener Centre, will urge
Parliament to reverse outdated common law that denies the humanity of the unborn child. The ancient law does not equate with modern scientific knowledge.
“In a published media report, Kingston law professor Kathleen Lahey responded by stating that this would ‘cut into the woman’s physical body to define part of her physical existence as being not her’,” reported Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “The absurdity of her remarks shows how far away we are from modern medicine. The child in the womb is not part of the mother’s body and indeed the baby is a separate living being with its own unique DNA,” added Hughes.
“It is time to bring the law into sync with the 21st century and recognize that the child in the womb is a human being and as such deserves protection in law,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, National Organizer of CLC.
Campaign Life Coalition is urging people to contact their MP at their constituency office over the Christmas break and tell them its time to recognize that the child in the womb is a human being worthy of their protection.
