Campaign Life Coalition says 'Bathroom Bill' C-389 will result in transgender issues being taught in Classrooms

Feb. 8, 2011 Toronto, Ontario- Campaign Life Coalition has expressed concern regarding Bill C-389 coming up for a final vote in Parliament on February 9, 2011. This Bill seeks to add ‘gender identity’ and ‘gender expression’ to the Canadian Human Rights Code and the Criminal Code. It could also result in transgenderism being taught as acceptable to students as young as five years old.

“This bathroom bill is potentially dangerous because male cross-dressers and drag queens would have the legal right to use female bathrooms,” said Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “It not only flies in the face of common sense, but is also potentially dangerous by creating the legitimized access that sexual predators often seek.”

In Ontario, Premier Dalton McGuinty’s all-day Kindergarten program requires that teachers combat “preconceived notions” about the gender of five-year-olds. A document outlining the program states that, “Preconceived notions about children’s …gender… create barriers that reduce engagement and equitable outcomes.”
“The passage of Bill C-389 will only cement the provincial government’s agenda to bring the controversial issues into Kindergarten classes,” said Alissa Golob of Campaign Life Coalition. “These attacks will only get stronger if C-389 passes and the activists behind this legislation will have the perceived ‘moral authority’ to demand that transgenderism be taught in school as something that is natural and normal.”

Campaign Life Coalition urges people to contact their MP and tell them to vote against C-389 on February 9th.
