Ontario taxpayers will target MPP offices to demand the defunding of elective abortions
Toronto, October 2, 2013 – On Thursday October 3 and throughout the next 12 months, concerned taxpayers who are fed up with the misuse of their tax dollars by OHIP, will air their grievances at the local constituency offices of more than half the MPPs across the province. The event is organized by Campaign Life Coalition’s Youth Division.
Every year, the government extracts up to $50 million from the wallets of taxpayers in order to finance elective abortions, a procedure which is not medically necessary. In the meantime, genuine healthcare needs such as physiotherapy for seniors has been delisted, as have optometry exams, prostate cancer screening tests and others. Ontario is drowning in debt and as a result, cannot afford to hire the more than 1,000 family doctors which the province is short.
"Taxpayers will send a message to their elected representative that they do not want to be forced to pay for someone else’s elective abortion", said Alissa Golob, Campaign Life Coalition’s Youth Coordinator. "Abortions are not medically necessary and our tax dollars should not subsidize life-style choices while genuine areas of health care such as doctor and nurse shortages, elder care, and treatment for autistic children are neglected." The taxpayer-defense mini-rallies sweeping the province are part of an unprecedented, multi-province, Defund Abortion campaign that will also include rallies in Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia on the same day, followed by Quebec, Saskatchewan and British Columbia in the spring.
