"Not from my wallet!"- Manitoba taxpayers to MLAs about taxpayer-funded abortions
Winnipeg, October 2, 2013 - On Thursday October 3, 2013, Manitoba taxpayers will assemble at the Manitoba Legislative Building in Winnipeg to rally against the current government’s policy on forcing taxpayers to subsidize elective abortions in the province. Each year, the Manitoba government picks $4 million from the pocket of taxpayers to finance elective abortion, which is a medically unnecessary procedure. At the same time, many genuine health care needs do not get coverage, or are so severely cash-starved that patient health is jeopardized.
The rally is part of an unprecedented, multi-province Defund Abortion campaign that also include rallies in Nova Scotia, Alberta and Ontario on the same day, followed by Quebec, Saskatchewan and British Columbia next spring. "The province’s debt is almost $30 billion, and growing at more than $6 million per day. Consequently, our healthcare system is cash-strapped and simply can’t afford, politically-motivated spending on lifestyle choices like abortion." said Maria Slykerman, President of Campaign Life Coalition Manitoba. "The $4-million dollars currently being diverted towards abortion could instead be applied to hire 20 family doctors, or 60 nurses in communities facing a dire shortage. Alternately, it could be used to buy 3 new MRI machines each year which could potentially save lives by catching life-threatening conditions early. MLAs must cut the fat and delist this medically unnecessary procedure from the list of services covered by the province’s health insurance plan."
Campaign Life Coalition Manitoba will conduct door-to-door leafleting throughout the province in the upcoming months, and roll out a petition campaign
When: Thursday October 3, 2013 from 12noon – 1:30pm
Where: Manitoba Legislative Building
Who: Campaign Life Coalition Manitoba will be joining concerned taxpayers from across the province
