Nova Scotians calling on party leaders to defund abortion if elected
Halifax, October 2, 2013 –Some Nova Scotia taxpayers are hoping to make abortion an election issue, with a taxpayer-defense rally scheduled less than a week before voting day. On Thursday October 3, 2013, Nova Scotians will gather at the Legislative Building in Halifax to send a message to future MLAs and all party leaders, not so much about the morality of abortion, but rather the cost. Taxpayers shell out approximately $2 million annually to fund abortions in Nova Scotia, a medically unnecessary procedure, while many genuine health care needs do not get insured, or are so cash-starved that patients languish on long waiting lists and others receive sub-standard care.
This rally is part of an unprecedented, multi-province Defund Abortion campaign that also include rallies in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario on the same day, followed by Quebec, Saskatchewan and British Columbia next spring. "Taxpayers deserve to know whether the people who want to lead this province will be responsible managers of scarce, taxpayer dollars in Nova Scotia’s crumbling and cash-starved healthcare system," said Ellen Chesal, President of Campaign Life Coalition Nova Scotia. "For $2-million per year we could hire 10 family doctors, or 34 nurses in communities facing a dire shortage, or we could provide urgent therapy to 26 additional autistic children each year whose conditions may worsen the longer they languish on waiting lists. What’s more important to these party leaders and future MLAs -- fixing the shortage crisis of family doctors in Nova Scotia, or subsidizing the killing of babies in the womb?"
When: Thursday October 3, 2013 from 12noon – 1:00pm
Where: Nova Scotia Legislative Building
Who: Campaign Life Coalition Nova Scotia will be joining concerned taxpayers from across the province
