Support Bill C-268

To the Minister of Justice and all Members of Parliament:

I would like to voice my support for Bill C-268, “An Act to amend the Criminal Code (intimidation of health care professionals)”.

This Bill would ensure Canada’s doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care providers are able to do their jobs with integrity, without being coerced into acting against their conscience.

I value my health care professionals, along with their knowledge, training, expertise, and discernment. I respect the decision that many of them make to refuse to participate in euthanasia and assisted suicide (also known as “MAiD”).

Many health care providers assert that euthanasia and assisted suicide are a violation of medical ethics. This is the long-standing position of the World Medical Association. This is also enshrined in the Hippocratic Oath, the traditional standard of medical ethics. Many also express religious and moral objections over taking the life of another human being.

Some medical professionals object so strongly that they would rather leave their profession than participate in any way in these homicidal acts.

No doctors, nurses, pharmacists, or other health care providers should feel pressured to violate their conscience. They should never be at risk of discrimination or reprisals in their employment for simply acting in accord with their training, ethics, and sincerely-held beliefs.

Therefore, in support of our Canadian medical professionals, and in consideration of Canada’s Charter of Rights and its respect for conscience, I am asking you to lend your support to Bill C-268.

Bill C-268 does more than give lip service to medical professionals’ conscience rights, it puts those rights into law and penalizes abusers.

Sincerely,

[ The Undersigned ]

This is unethical. Doctors should be saving lives, not be expected to purposefully end a life.

It is wrong to force medical professionals to go against their conscience to provide and/or refer people to assisted suicide help. One would think that it also goes against a doctor's hippocratic oath.

Regardless of what you call it, terminating someone's life is MURDER. No one should be allowed to do it.

It is simply very bad if someone, anyone, is forced to do something they consider wrong. It is in fact the essence of tolitarianism: Whether it be related to slavery, racism, or bullying, that is what they have in common.
