Trustee Maria Rizzo,

I am calling on you to do the right thing and resign as trustee for the Toronto Catholic District School Board, effective immediately, owing to your public support for the anti-Christian ideologies of Gender Identity and Gender Expression.

I believe nothing short of your resignation, aside from an apology and promise to renounce transgender ideology, will suffice to respect and protect the Catholic identity of our schools.

On October 30th, 2019, the Catholic Values Subcommittee of the TCDSB met to discuss an insidious proposal to incorporate transgender ideology into the Board’s official Code of Conduct.

Of the five members of the Catholic Values Subcommittee, four chose to vote in favour of upholding Catholic values at the meeting on Oct. 30th. However, you were the sole member to vote against those values, in support of Gender Identity Theory.

You have betrayed Catholic teaching and violated the trust placed in you by Catholic parents and ratepayers who expect trustees to faithfully defend and promote authentic Catholic teaching in Toronto’s Catholic schools.

You voted “Yes” to adding the anti-Christian and unscientific terms “gender identity” and “gender expression” to the Code. This would permit and condone the following practices:

  • male students dressing in girls’ clothing and make-up;
  • male students using girls’ washrooms and changerooms;
  • male teachers presenting themselves as female with or without sex-change surgery;
  • students being forced to use biologically false and made-up transgender pronouns; etc.

If passed, concerned parents would be unable to protect their children from the trauma that results from exposure to these practices. Female students, in particular, would be helpless to object to any violation of their privacy and security, in school change rooms and bathrooms.

Furthermore, these practices represent a direct attack on basic Catholic teaching on human sexuality. Christian anthropology of the human person clearly teaches that there are only two sexes, male and female, and that our distinctive maleness and femaleness is dictated by the bodies entrusted to us by God.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

  • “By creating the human being man and woman, God gives personal dignity equally to the one and the other. Each of them, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity” (2393).

Pope Francis has called transgender ideology “demonic” and “an attack on the family”.

According to Section 93 of the Constitution Act and Section 29 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Catholic trustees have the right to uphold Catholic teaching in Catholic schools.

In fact, trustees have a fiduciary obligation to do so!

Sincerely Yours,

The Catholic Church losses all credibility with people such as Maria Rizzo in any position touching on policy making and/or influencing the implementation of utterly non-Catholic policies.

Dear Maria Rizzo, Thank you for your service and contribution to the Toronto Catholic District School Board. However as a Catholic and a university student, I am concerned about the future education of children. God created, willed and loved us into being. As Psalm 139 says he knitted us in our mother's womb. Life, marriage, sexuality, and family are gifts from God. Each gift given to us by God has a specific purpose. Recently, my sister-in law gave birth to my first nephew and I would not like my brother's kid to be educated about sexual identities, multiple gender roles, and lifestyles when he goes to school. It not only denies Church teachings and natural law but it goes against human nature. It should be the parents responsibility to educate their children in these matters. On the part of the school, to explain the beauty of sexuality and marriage according to Theology of the Body from Pope John Paul II. Sometimes it is how one passes on the faith and the teachings of the faith. I use to be involved with youth ministry, there are many young men and women below and around my age (late teens to mid 20s) who share the same views. They thirst for a relationship with Jesus and to live their lives with joy and integrity. They want to learn about their faith and the teachings offered by the Catholic Church. I understand at the same time it is difficult to live in this world. We need to do all we can to accompany people who are same-sex attracted or transgender. I have had friends who experience this. It doesn't stop me from loving them. Please give this some thought and prayer before making decisions that will affect the lives of many children, parents, and future generations. God bless you, Michael
