Saskatchewan doctors conscience rights under attack
March 4, 2015
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Dear people of Saskatchewan, The Saskatchewan Physicians and Surgeons has approved in principle, a draft policy that would force doctors to violate their own consciences. The policy mandates that physicians must refer patients to other doctors for procedures which they believe to be immoral or unethical. The draft policy goes on to say, "When a referral to another health care provider is not possible without causing a delay that would jeopardize the patient's health or well-being, physicians must provide the patient with all health services that are legally permissible and publicly-funded and that are consented to by the patient." If it becomes legalized, this draft policy will also force doctors to participate in or refer for assisted-suicide and euthanasia. It will also immediately apply to abortion referrals. Sean Murphy of the Protection of Conscience Project says: "What Saskatchewan appears to have done is cut and paste virtually verbatim the model conscientious objection policy advanced by the Conscience Research Group. This is a group of Canadian pro-abortion law professors whose purpose is to eliminate freedom of conscience from the medical profession insofar as it limits women's access to contraception and abortion." We only have until March 6, 2015 to respond and give our opinion on this draft policy! Please let the College of Saskatchewan Physicians and Surgeons know that you are gravely concerned as to the content of the proposed draft policy of the CPS. Tell the CPSS you disagree1. Visit the CPSS website and fill in its feedback form, on the right-hand side where it says "CPSS Consultation". Click here.2. Send the CPSS an e-mail by clicking here. 3. Phone the CPSS and express your disagreement: (306) 244-7355. A good sample letter to reference is here. We have until March 6th to make our voices heard. We do not want our physicians becoming murderers. This will force physicians to be involved in the killing of some of the most vulnerable members of our human family. Do not delay, contact the College of Physicians and Surgeons today. As MP Maurice Vellacott stated, "One cannot help but wonder, what is the real motivation of those pushing us down this dangerous path? And will we have the courage and wisdom and foresight to stop it?"
