At 10 a.m. today,  the pro-life MP for Kitchener-Centre asked Parliament for unanimous consent to allow his human dignity motion to proceed. 

The motion would call on all Members of Parliament to affirm that every Canadian law must be interpreted in a manner which recognizes the equal worth and dignity of everyone who is in fact a human being. Under Parliamentary rules, Woodworth could not, without unanimous consent, bring this Motion to a vote, so he sought the unanimous consent of Members of Parliament.

As you can hear and see in the video below, there were a chorus of "NOs" shouted out by unidentified MPs. As a result, the Speaker of the House declared the request rejected. The motion would not go forward for a vote.

During Woodworth's Member's Statement the Monday prior, he noted that "If even one Member of this House refuses to consent to this essential principle of democratic governance it will be a dark and dangerous day for Canada."

It appears that day was today. Many MPs are clearly opposed to recognizing the equal dignity and worth of everyone who is a human being.

In a previous press release to announce his motion, Woodworth had said: "Laws like subsection 223(1), which falsely condemn as non-human those we know to be human, are savage and inhumane, a throwback to a more barbarous age." Well put, Stephen.

As Mr. Woodworth pointed out with his previous campaign on M-312, this motion was bigger than abortion. There is a movement afoot to legalize the killing of newborns by their mothers. It is promoted in universities by “bio-ethics" professors like Peter Singer. The canard used in abortion that the fetus is not a human being, is being expanded to born children, appealing to the idea that since they are not “independent” from their mother nor capable of complex thought patterns, that they are not fully human beings either.

We have seen an Alberta judge essentially rule according to this evil logic in an infanticide trial. We have witnessed the RCMP refuse to investigate apparent homicides involving live-birth abortions at Canadian hospitals.
