Deadline for candidate applications to run for election to CPC National Policy & National Constitution Committees
Today is the deadline, by 5:00 PM EDT on February 2nd, for interested members of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) to submit their application (candidate filing) to run for election as a volunteer member of the National Policy Committee and/or National Constitution Committee. Good men and women are needed to serve on these influential committees which help determine the rules and processes for the party's biennial National Convention.
At the National Convention, delegates get to vote on changing the official Policy Declaration of the CPC, on its Constitution, and to elect the governing board of directors of the party, which is also known as the National Council. These three areas of voting at the Convention are absolutely critical for social and democratic conservatives who believe that the party should be reflective of the values, hopes and dreams of its membership, and for the flourishing of Canadian society.
Campaign Life Coalition urges pro-life, pro-family and pro-democracy individuals to run for these important sub-committee positions, which have a 2-year term until the conclusion of the next convention which will take place somewhere around September 2025. However, that rough date is subject to change depending on when the next federal election is called. Candidates who are really gung ho, can apply to serve on both sub-committees, if they desire.
Why is it important for people of integrity to run for the National Policy Committee and National Constitution Committee?
For many years, red Tories on National Council and un-elected staff in the Leader's office have perpetrated all manner of fraud, cheating and corruption in order to suppress the voice of its grassroots members, thwart policy resolutions disfavored by socially and fiscally liberal actors in the party, and to block National Council candidates who are true conservatives. These red Tories want to the CPC to essentially be a pale pink copy of the Liberal Party, or as the saying goes, Liberal-lite. By electing volunteers to the National Policy Committe and/or National Constitution Committee who have integrity, who believe in party democracy and fairness, these individuals will be in a position to oppose red Tory efforts to defraud party members of a fair and transparent National Convention process, as mandated by the CPC Constitution.
Voting will be done by the 338 CPC EDA Presidents across the country, who will elect the following number of NPC and NCC members, by region:
Region | Number to Elect to NPC | Number to Elect to NCC |
Alberta | 2 | 2 |
British Columbia | 2 | 2 |
Manitoba | 1 | 1 |
New Brunswick | 1 | 1 |
Newfoundland and Labrador | 1 | 1 |
Nova Scotia | 1 | 1 |
Ontario | 4 | 4 |
PEI | 1 | 1 |
Quebec | 3 | 3 |
Saskatchewan | 1 | 1 |
Territories combined (YK, NT, NU) | 1 | 1 |
To win a seat, candidates must pitch their skills and credentials to every EDA President in their respective province or territory. For instance, those running for an Ontario seat will need to contact each of the 121 EDA Presidents in that province, via email, phone and snail mail (where mailing address is available), make the pitch for why they'd be the best candidate, and ask for the President's vote. Those seeking a seat in New Brunswick will need to persuade all 10 EDA Presidents in that province. And so on. Campaign Life Coalition can help you prepare your "sales pitch", provide tips to help you win, and also help obtain the requisite number of endorsement signatures for your application. The full rules for these committee elections can be read here. Below is an excerpt from the rules which explains candidate eligibility and how to apply. The application form (Form A) can be downloaded here. Two versions of the form to gather endorsement signatures on can be downloaded here.
