Conservative Party of Canada Leadership Candidates - the race officially begins
January 13, 2020
The Conservative Party of Canada Leadership Race officially begins on Monday, January 13, 2020.
Each candidate will need to raise $300,000 to stay in the contest, with $100,000 of that figure being a deposit that will be refundable to the candidate if he or she correctly follows the contest rules. Candidates will also need 3,000 signed endorsements from party members from a minimum of 30 ridings across the country, spanning at least seven different provinces.
There is a spending limit of $5 million for each candidate. Voting will take place using a ranked ballot format as in the previous leadership race. Candidates will be elected on a one-member, one-vote system weighted by riding.
