An amazing opportunity with the UCP’s AGM
I’m really excited about something, and you might be in a position to help CLC capitalize on it...
It has to do with next week’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the United Conservative Party of Alberta (UCP).
Members in good standing of the UCP who’ve registered to attend the party’s AGM are entitled to vote on a number of policy resolutions that will be debated. The ones that pass with a majority will become official UCP policy!
And as official policy, they’ll exert influence on Premier Danielle Smith to introduce corresponding legislation.
Now here’s the truly fantastic news...
One of the resolutions up for debate is a policy to support legislation like what Saskatchewan just passed, to require schools to obtain parental consent before minor children can impersonate the opposite sex during school hours! We must not fail to pass this as official UCP policy!
But wait, it gets even better!
The parental consent for transgender identification resolution isn’t the only amazing policy up for debate. There are 19 more pro-life, pro-family and pro-freedom resolutions which can be passed by eligible voting delegates at this AGM! See PART 1, further down in this email, for the policy listing.
TAKE ACTION, NOW!
1. If you’re a paid-up UCP member as of October 12, 2023, and already registered to attend the AGM in Calgary from November 3 – 4th, please vote for the policy and governance resolutions I’ve listed below! There are 20 policy (see Part 1) and three governance resolutions (see Part 2) we’re recommending that you support.
2. If you’re not currently registered to attend the AGM as a voting delegate, but you were a UCP member as of October 12, 2023, please register to attend now. Youth ages 14 to 25 have to pay $99. It’s $329 for adults.
3. If your UCP membership expired after October 12, 2023, you can still renew and register to attend the AGM as a voting delegate. That’s because you were a valid member by the deadline.
NOTES:
1. If you were not a member prior to the October 12 deadline, you cannot become a voting member by joining the party now. Sorry, but it’s too late.
2. To vote, you must attend in person. No online or proxy voting is permitted.
The UCP’s AGM is scheduled to take place at the BMO Centre in Calgary, and runs for two days – Friday, November 3rd to Saturday, November 4th. For registration details, visit the party’s official website.
Part 1) Vote YES to these Policy Resolutions
We recommend voting YES to the 20 policy proposals listed below. Voting is scheduled to take place Saturday afternoon, November 4th.
# 2: Freedom of expression
# 3: Healthcare workers’ right to freely express medical opinions
# 4: Patients’ right to informed consent
# 5: Right to buy goods & services with cash instead of digital currency
# 6: Ban race-based, identity politics admission criteria from post-secondary institutions
# 7: Right to privacy & confidentiality of health information
# 8: Schools must obtain parental consent for children under 16 prior to changing their name or pronoun
# 9: Eliminate “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion” offices from Alberta’s post-secondary institutions. Defund schools that refuse.
# 10: Oppose Trudeau’s planned expansion of euthanasia for the sole reason of mental illness, and for children.
# 12: Prohibit land use or development planning initiatives that would restrict the freedom of movement of residents.
# 13: Prevent electoral fraud by banning the use of electronic machines for tabulation and counting of ballots.
# 14: Digital Bill of Rights; right to free expression online; access to information without censorship or surveillance
# 16: Healthcare Workers’ Rights; physicians can’t be compelled to prescribe treatments nor prohibit them from prescribing
# 17: Bill of Parental Rights with respect to education & healthcare decisions for children
# 19: Implement a school voucher system to ensure greater choice in education
# 20: Ban schools from providing access to materials of a sexual, racist or abusive nature (e.g. books, handouts, online material, live events)
# 22: End provincial funding of drug consumption sites
# 25: Require professional associations & regulatory bodies to follow the same rules of evidence as courts when investigating members for misconduct complaints
# 28: Require professional associations & regulatory bodies to limit investigation of members to conduct on the job, and to exclude personal affairs
#29: Ban biological males from becoming inmates at female prisons
Note: There are ten other policy proposals being debated for which CLC is not going to comment because they fall too far outside our basket of issues. Members will have to decide for themselves whether to support those ten.
Part 2) Vote YES to these Governance Resolutions
Voting will take place on Friday evening, November 3rd. We recommend voting for the three resolutions below.
# 1: Ban registered lobbyists from holding office an elected member of the UCP Board of Directors
# 2: Ban employees of MLAs and of the Party from holding office as an elected member of the UCP Board of Directors
# 6: Immediate family of a sitting MLA or candidate is not eligible to be a Director of the local Constituency Association Board
Note: We are not commenting on the other 20 governance resolutions that are up for debate, because they fall too far outside of CLC’s normal concerns. Members will have to decide for themselves whether to support them.
Election of UCP Board of Directors
On Saturday, voting members will also cast ballots for the next Board of Directors of the UCP.
This is an extremely important set of elections, because the Board is responsible for approving or disqualifying candidates, setting up policy conventions, and running leadership elections. It can also potentially influence the Party Leader.
CLC plans to issue endorsements for the Board elections before the vote on Saturday November 4th.
If you have intel on any candidates' stances relevant to CLC's issues, please share it with us by email. The listing of candidates can be found here.
Important for Alberta and Canada
Albertans have a long tradition of standing up for life and family issues against the cultural rot and anti-freedom sentiment that festers in Ottawa, and now you have a chance to carry on this legacy.
If we can help make the UCP a stronger advocate for the traditional values and principles that made Alberta great …
Conservative parties in other provinces may be emboldened to follow the example.
That’s why next weekend is so important.
So, if you can attend the UCP AGM next week, please let us know. Additionally, if you have any questions about any of the above policies, please reply to this email.
Please pray for these efforts, as well, because the work of the pro-life-and-family movement must be grounded in our faith in Jesus Christ.
