Parliament Must Protect Conscientious Doctors
Can you imagine doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare workers being pressured to euthanize their diseased, disabled, and depressed patients on request – or at minimum provide an effective referral to others who will do the deed? Can you imagine those who refuse to euthanize – who defend the sanctity of life – being pushed out of their jobs and compelled to leave the country or pursue another vocation?
Sadly, we do not need to imagine! This is Trudeau’s Canada in 2022.
As we speak, Canadian physicians are being coerced into violating their Hippocratic Oath in order to dispense death. Nurses and pharmacists are being bullied into aiding and abetting medical murder. Unless things change, our entire health care system will become completely corrupt, and the patients it was designed to serve will suffer the most. Political compliance will replace medical ethics, compromising patient care and taking us further down that dark and deadly path that started with the Trudeau government’s legalization of euthanasia in 2016.
Who knows what the end of that path will be, but it frightens me to think of it! Will Canada be euthanizing children next? Will the government eventually decide who is and is not worthy of life?
The organ harvesting industry – a lucrative, multi-billion-dollar business – is also fueling the push for more compliant “death doctors”, as euthanasia deaths offer the freshest organs for transplantation. This industry has no interest in conscientious objectors!
These are just some of the reasons why it’s so vital we work to pass Bill C-230 in the House of Commons. Our doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care workers need a law with real teeth to protect them from being coerced into euthanizing their patients. Bill C-230, MP Kelly Block’s Medical Freedom Bill, is designed to do just that – safeguarding and defending freedom of conscience for every health care professional in Canada.
With the solitary exception of Manitoba, no province or territory offers any kind of explicit conscience protection for those who work in the medical field. In fact, conscience protections are specifically denied to many physicians who object to euthanasia and assisted suicide.
This is certainly the case in Ontario, where a Superior Court ruled in favour of the policy of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2019, stating that doctors do not have the right to refuse to participate in, or refer for, euthanasia.
It is hard to believe that the biblical command, “Thou shalt not kill,” has been turned on its head by the courts who now demand, “Thou SHALT kill.” The supposed “right to access” death supersedes the “right to conscientiously object” to killing.
We need to call on our MPs to put the brakes on this moral insanity and pass Bill C-230 as soon as possible. The conscience rights of Canada’s medical professionals, as guaranteed in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, must be upheld!
When Mrs. Block re-introduced her Medical Freedom Bill in the House on February 4th, she commented, “We need to create a work environment for medical professionals that protects them, supports them and encourages them to continue in the critical work they do... Medical professionals are facing increasing pressure to participate in assisted suicide, and this is causing many to question their ability to work here in Canada... The bill proposes an amendment to the Criminal Code that would protect medical professionals from intimidation or coercion to participate in medically assisted suicide.”
Bill C-230 will make it a Criminal Code offence to intimidate a health care professional into directly or indirectly providing euthanasia or assisted suicide. It will also be an offence to refuse to employ or to dismiss from employment a professional who directly or indirectly refuses to take part in euthanasia or assisted suicide.
Please help us reach out to our elected representatives and urge them to enact Bill C-230 by sending an Action Alert Email or making an Action Alert Phone Call. We have prepared a number of pre-scripted messages that explain why this bill is so important for doctors, for patients, and for our country as a whole.
If you don’t want a “death doctor”, a “death nurse”, or a “death pharmacist” managing your health care, you need to get your MP to support Bill C-230! If conscientious doctors, nurses, and pharmacists are not protected, they will continue to leave this country for greener pastures – and we will all be left with a corrupt health care system that favours killing over caring.
Please help us reach out to our federal MPs.
