Not Supportable
CLC rating: Anti-Catholic, pro-abortion, pro-LGBT ideology
Rating Comments: Ms. Power is a dangerous anti-Catholic activist and should not be eligible to stand as a candidate for Catholic school trustee, for multiple reasons.

On Twitter, she has made multiple public statements on social media that contradict Catholic moral teaching, including a Tweet in which she repeats, like a mantra, "Abortion is Health Care". She retweeted a comment which rejected Catholic doctrine on the God-ordained purpose of marriage & family. On May 19, she called for an end to Catholic education, tweeting that the Family Life curriculum developed by Ontario's Catholic bishops "must be changed or the Catholic board must go".

All of these public statements, and more not listed here, place her outside the moral boundaries of the Catholic Church. A complaint should be filed with the City Clerk to make the point that she is not Catholic and not eligible to run for Catholic school trustee.

Powers has also cheered the firing of Ontario nurses who, for reasons of conscience, decided not to take the abortion-tainted COVID jabs, all of which were either produced and/or tested using cells derived from a child that was murdered by abortion. (And this at a time when we have a severe nurse shortage in Ontario!) She mocked religious freedom for people who oppose the controversial, abortion-tainted products by retweeting a comment referring to conscientious objectors as wanting "religious freedumb".

She is possibly not even a baptized Catholic. Several parents brought concerns forward to the Board and school Principal where Ms. Power inserted herself as Co-chair of the School Council, that she may not even be a baptized Catholic. On Twitter she has refused to answer when asked if she is a baptized Catholic.

Ms. Power would be to Catholicism in Halton what a wrecking ball is to a building.

Here are quotes from Alex Power on various life and family issues:

Tweeted her support for child murder in the womb, calling the dismemberment, disembowlment and decapitation of preborn babies 'health care':  "There is NO common ground when you are trying to strip women of of their basic rights. Abortion is health care.... Get out of the uteruses of our nation." [Tweet by Alex Power, June 26, 2022]

Tweeted a bizarre accusation that pro-life Christians only seek to end abortion in order to conceal a desire for control and power:  "Wise words by @michaelcoren.

Anti abortion advociates use their Christianity as a cover for their own personal agenda for control and power."
[Tweet by Alex Power, May 5, 2022]

Made a delegation presentation to the Board, opposing a pro-life motion called the "Sanctity of Life" motion which sought to ban fundraising in HCDSB schools for charities that support abortion:  "Alex Power spoke behalf of Rev. Micheal Coren, an Anglican priest. She stated there was “nothing Christian” about the motion because it was against women’s rights. Reading Coren’s statement, she claimed that the Bible supports abortion, a statement which conflicts with Catholic teaching." ['Halton Catholic Trustees oppose pro-life motion, The Interim Newspaper, July 14, 2022]

Here are the answers for the questionnaire as provided by Alex Power on 2022.

Question Response
Will you work to ensure that Catholic schools do not invite guest speakers who have publicly expressed positions that contradict the morality and teaching of the Church, no matter how great their achievements in politics, business, sports, science or the arts? --
Will you work to ensure that educational materials that enter the premises of Catholic schools (e.g., library resources, curriculum texts, awareness campaigns, flyers) and all approved school activities are consistent with and do not undermine the morality and teachings of the Church? No (per social media post)
Will you work to ensure that your Catholic school board enacts a policy requiring all agents and employees of the board to uphold the rights of custodial parents to direct and control the education of, and any medical treatment provided to, their dependent children attending its schools? No (per social media post)
Are there any circumstances under which you believe a woman should have access to abortion*? (*Note: a surgical or medical intervention designed to prevent the death of the mother but which results in the unintended and undesired death of the pre-born child, is not an abortion) Yes, all circumstances (per social media post)
Will you work to ensure that your Board publicly promotes total fidelity to the faith and moral teachings of the Catholic Church? (Current examples include the illicitness of abortion, contraception and homosexual practice) No (per social media post)
Will you oppose sex-ed programs which are contrary to Church teaching? No (per social media post)
Given that the Gay Pride flag is a controversial political symbol which contradicts Church teaching on marriage & human sexuality, will you oppose any and all proposals to fly the Gay Pride flag at Catholic schools, at the board office, or to acknowledge and celebrate June as Pride month? No (per social media post)
