Electoral District: Burlington Wards 4 & 5

Bio

Brenda Agnew
Not Supportable
CLC rating: Pro--abortion, pro-euthanasia, pro-LGBT ideology
Rating Comments: Agnew voted against a pro-life motion introduced by a fellow trustee which sought to ban fundraising for charities which promote and/or are involved in abortion and the destruction of embryonic human beings.

In 2022, this Catholic school board trustee rejected the moral teaching of the Catholic Church that trustees are sworn to uphold, by voting in favour of flying the so-called "gay-pride" flag - that notorious symbol celebrating homoerotic fetishism (and genital mutilation in the case of transgenderism) - outside every single school in the Halton Catholic District School Board for the entire month of June, which LGBT radicals have dubbed "pride-month".

On social media, Agnew uses transgender personal pronouns after her name, i.e. (she/her).

Agnew has directly opposed the Catholic Bishops of Ontario, calling for the "Fully Alive" family life curriculum that was developed by the Bishops "homophobic" and "transphobic", and called for it to be overhauled in order to promote the "2SLGBTQ+ community".

Also, in September 2021, Agnew actually voted against a truly Catholic motion to re-instate the "Our Father" prayer in the morning exercises at HCDSB schools.

Percentage in last election: 58.3% (2022)
Victory margin last election: 16.5% (2022)
Religion / Faith: dissident Catholic

Here is Brenda Agnew's voting record relating to life and family issues:

Votes, Surveys and Policy Decision Vote Score
Not Supportable
Motion to fly the Gay Pride flag at every Catholic school in the board
In total opposition to Catholic doctrine, this motion sought to ensure that the Gay Pride flag would be flown at every single Catholic school in the board.
Yes bad
Motion to cancel a fellow Trustee for being faithful to Catholic teaching
This motion's intent was to weaponize the Board's Code of Conduct in a grossly anti-democratic fashion, for the purpose of silencing and punishing a fellow school board trustee for simply having defended the Catholic faith and for having dared to oppose anti-Christian secular ideology which was infiltrating the Catholic school board. In addition to undermining the very purpose of Catholic education, a vote in favor of this motion is doubly wrong because it effectively overturns the result of a democratic election in which Catholic ratepayers elected the persecuted trustee for the very purpose of vocally representing their values.
Supported bad
Opposing the Euthanasia Bill C-7 (Motion to express opposition to the expansion of euthanasia in Canada)
This Motion, brought forward by stalwart Catholic Trustee Helena Karabela, would direct the Halton Catholic District School Baord to issue a letter to the Senate of Canada urging that body to oppose the Trudeau Liberals' insideous euthanasia expansion Bill C-7. Sadly, Trustee Karabela's principled Motion was defeated, narrowly, by a vote of 5 opposed to 4 in favour on February 16, 2021.
Opposed bad
Motion to ban fundraising for charities and non-profit organizations that support abortion, euthanasia, or embryonic stem cell research
This Motion, made by faithful Catholic Trustee Helena Karabela, sought to ensure that the Halton Catholic District School Baord's fundraising efforts would not be directed to organizations (including registered charities, non-profits, and their subsidiaries, affiliates, and associates) that support or promote abortion, euthanasia, or human embryonic stem cell research). Appallingly, Trustee Karabela's principled Motion was defeated, losing narrowly by a vote of 4 opposed to 3 in favour on February 15, 2022.
Opposed bad
Motion to re-introduce the “Our Father” prayer at the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB)
This truly Catholic Motion, introduced by faithful HCDSB Trustee Helena Karabela, sought to re-introduce the “Our Father” prayer into the opening exercises at all Halton Catholic schools. The Motion passed on September 21, 2021 by the razor-thin margin of 5 in favour and 4 against – a shameful and outrageous display of contempt by several Catholic trustees for the very words of their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in His prayer to His Father in Heaven.
Opposed bad
Banning fundraising and donations to pro-abortion and anti-life charities
Motion to institute, as official school board policy, a ban on using school resources to fundraise for organizations that directly or indirectly promote abortion and other anti-life practices which contradict Catholic moral teaching.
Opposed - Voted to kill it on technicality (Jun 7/22) bad

Here are quotes from Brenda Agnew on various life and family issues:

In response to a militant gay activist who accused the Catholic bishops' "Fullly Alive" family life curriculum of being 'homophobic' and 'transphobic', Agnew tweeted in reply:  "I agree, it's problematic and needs to be overhauled. I wish I knew the best way to do that." [Tweet reply by Brenda Agnew, April 13, 2022]

Here are the answers for the questionnaire as provided by Brenda Agnew on 2022.

Question Response
Are there any circumstances under which you believe a woman should have access to abortion*? (*Note: a surgical or medical intervention designed to prevent the death of the mother but which results in the unintended and undesired death of the pre-born child, is not an abortion) no response
Will you work to ensure that your Catholic school board enacts a policy requiring all agents and employees of the board to uphold the rights of custodial parents to direct and control the education of, and any medical treatment provided to, their dependent children attending its schools? no response
Will you work to ensure that educational materials that enter the premises of Catholic schools (e.g., library resources, curriculum texts, awareness campaigns, flyers) and all approved school activities are consistent with and do not undermine the morality and teachings of the Church? no response
Will you work to ensure that Catholic schools do not invite guest speakers who have publicly expressed positions that contradict the morality and teaching of the Church, no matter how great their achievements in politics, business, sports, science or the arts? no response
Will you work to ensure that your Board publicly promotes total fidelity to the faith and moral teachings of the Catholic Church? (Current examples include the illicitness of abortion, contraception and homosexual practice) no response
Will you oppose sex-ed programs which are contrary to Church teaching? no response
Given that the Gay Pride flag is a controversial political symbol which contradicts Church teaching on marriage & human sexuality, will you oppose any and all proposals to fly the Gay Pride flag at Catholic schools, at the board office, or to acknowledge and celebrate June as Pride month? --
